May I start today’s post by expressing how grateful I am for you all? For the overwhelming abundance of niceties that flowed through my DM’s and comments over the course of my birthday weekend? I may? Fantastic.
YOU ALL ROCK MY WORLD AND I LOVE YOU x A MILLION!
Whew, now that that’s off my chest, let’s talk about something that I don’t particularly like: rules. I’m not here to say that I’m your run-of-the-mill criminal. No, the laws and regulations of the United States of America are ones I don’t tend to breach considering I have a general feeling I wouldn’t fare well in prison. HOWEVER, over the course of humanity, both spoken and unspoken rules have come about in the fashion world, some of which, might I say, are just plain bologna. Let’s review the lineup of a few common culprits.
-No white after Labor Day
-Horizontal stripes are to be avoided like the plague
-No pattern mixing
-Black does not go with brown or navy (my least favorite)
I could go on and on for days, but the beautiful thing about these rules is that they are starting to seem a little old fashioned aren’t they? Of all of the “rules” in this world, I believe the fashion kind were sort of destined to be broken, a theory this generation of mine has taken full advantage of. TODAY, I am partnering with Express on a campaign that they are calling “Express Your Rules”, centered around the idea of expressing personal style on your own terms.
CANIGETANAMEN?
Growing up, I was subject to a long list of clothing restrictions, written and enforced by my high school, so I never started experimenting really with fashion until college. Even still, after all these years, my style still changes and evolves constantly, even season to season, and that’s okay. Playing with clothes is something I have always loved and probably always will. I dress one day at a time and I have fun with it. I just go with what I’m feeling, you feel me?
With that being said, the look I created with Express is one that speaks to me on this theme of expressing my own rules. Black on black looks are not something you don’t see often in summer but guess what? I LOVE black and I want to wear it so I will. Black isn’t a summer color? Says who?
I adore this sheer, star shirt and the leather mini that I chose to go with it! The whole look has an edgy, fun vibe that I would totally rock on a Friday night out, or maybe even the odd Tuesday. You never know around here, man. Express has so many great options on their site right now for summer! You HAVE to go check them out! You can use ring code 4298 to get $25 off purchases of $100+ in store and online! Be sure to review the terms and conditions of this deal here.
How do you Express Your Rules? Leave a comment and let me know what your favorite fashion rule is to break! Bonus points if black and brown/black and navy fall under your favorite color combos of all time as well. That rule is a load of garbage.
Until next time.
xx

I absolutely love this look Chandler! It’s edgy with a touch of femininity. LOVE IT. And I totally agree that black goes with brown and navy. Who decided those were bad combos? Nonsense!
