Okay you guys, I must admit something; when my vision first started deteriorating, I spent literal hours in front of a mirror every morning for two weeks, trying to force not-right-for-my-eyes contacts into my eye sockets. Why, you ask? Oh simple– I was afraid my glasses wouldn’t look good with my outfits. Yep, you read that right.
Albeit, this fortnight of frustration took place in the middle of my seventh grade year, AKA, at the height of intense hormonal drama. I was late for school every day for two weeks because of it, true story. However, this is something I struggled with, long after I made peace with my glasses. After all, as a lover of putting outfits together, my glasses are not only a functional and completely necessary part of my ensemble, but I like to think of them as a nice piece of face decoration, you follow?
Luckily, this story has a happy ending seeing as over the years I have come to love my glasses. I particularly love working them into outfits of mine as either a look-finisher or an outright statement piece. For this post, my friends and Coastal challenged me to put together two looks featuring prominent fall trends, and show how I sport my glasses with those looks. Allow me to elaborate.
When I thought of fall trends, the first one that came to mind for me was SNEAKERS, and even more specifically, sneakers with skirts and dresses. I’ve loved seeing this trend come about this summer and it’s safe to say, it’s here to stay. Here in the South, true “fall” weather doesn’t come around until closer to November (*insert hard eye roll*), so I tend to wear a lot of lighter knits like this set I’m wearing here. I love how the sneakers give it a relaxed, sporty look and the glasses finish the entire look without being too loud. I love clear framed glasses because they work with, well, literally everything. Thus, these are my go-to for a more subtle touch. Their color keeps them versatile, while the slight cat-eye adds a little bit of something feminine and unexpected.
The second trend I wanted to cover is one of my favorites; the sweatshirt dress. I’m all for something that I can throw on and go and this is one of those pieces. If it looks chic and feels like pajamas, it’s got my name written all over it. To make the look a little edgier, I added another fall trend- slouchy under-the-knee boots. I love how the black accent ties in to my bag and also the print on my tortoiseshell frames. In my opinion, tortoiseshell frames are a must-have for fall as they always look great with cozy sweaters and cardigans. This particular pair is more white, less brown and I love how it sort of “pops” off the face. These are more of a statement making pair, and you can catch me sporting them with my plain sweaters ALL. AUTUMN. LONG.
What’s your favorite frame for fall? Better yet, what’s your favorite way to style them? Leave me a comment here or on my Instagram (because y’all already know I’ll be posting more over there). And don’t forget you can use code CANDIDLYCHAN20 for 30% off glasses frames and lenses on coastal.com!
Until next time!
